Mount Union College Band to Play the Palace

The Mount Union College Wind Symphony will present its Canton Palace Theater debut on Sunday, April 18, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.

The Wind Symphony will perform a program featuring outstanding literature including classics such as "Procession of Nobels" by Rimky-Korsakov and "II Guarany Overture" by Gomez. Light classics will include "Comedians Gallop" by Kabalevsky and "The Whistler and His Dog" by Pryor. A trumpet quartet featuring senior Tim DeStefano of Carrollton, junior Susan Pilarski of Beaver, Pennsylvania, senior Joshua Learn of Greensburg, Pennsylvania and sophomore David Ward of North Granby, Connecticut will perform, as will a percussion ensemble including senior Drew Thornberry of Massillon, senior David Torch of Dennison, junior Sarah Yost of Canton, sophomore Dan Russell of Kent, sophomore Emily Ellis of Morral, freshman Jennifer Cadnum of Hinckley, senior Amy Riegler of North Canton, freshman Albert Smith of Canton, senior Dean Batke of North Royalton and sophomore Meredith Boley of Akron.

The personnel of the Wind Symphony, an honors band comprised of 46 of the finest musicians on the Mount Union College campus, is made up of students representing the northeastern sector of the United States and oversees countries as far away as China.

The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Tim DeStefano, a graduate of Canton Lincoln High School and Kent State University, and Bruce Shelley, a graduate of Canton McKinley High School and Kent State University.

The concert is free and open to the public. Complimentary tickets can be obtained by calling the Canton Palace Theater box office at (330) 454-8172 or the Department of Music at Mount Union College at (330) 823-2180. Tickets can also be obtained from any member of the Mount Union College Wind Symphony. Area high school band directors will have tickets available for any student who would like to attend.
