Mount Union College Choir to Present Welcome Back Concert on January 10

January 1, 2010

The Mount Union Choir will present a Welcome Back Concert on Sunday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall marking the end of an eight-day tour, visiting sites in Illinois and Ohio.

The Mount Union Choir is among the nation's oldest choral ensembles, tracing its roots to 1896. One of five choral organizations at Mount Union College, the Choir is the College's premiere choral ensemble. The Choir has enjoyed an international reputation, performing and earning critical acclaim in China, India, Malaysia, Norway, Turkey and most recently Ireland in 2007. The ensemble's 44 members represent virtually every major area of study within the College. They are chosen by competitive audition and maintain a demanding schedule of daily rehearsals, regular sectionals, and concert tour performances. The Mount Union Choir is under the direction of Dr. Scott W. Dorsey, director of choral activities.

The Choir's repertoire spans 1,200 years of music history, with something for virtually everyone – from the sublime to the silly. The 2008 tour program features examples of 12th Century chant, 16th and 17th century polyphony (including an extremely rare example of Mexican Renaissance music, 20th and 21st century choral masterpieces, folk music, a touch of vocal jazz and even a tragic song about a lost alligator).

The concert is free and open to the public. No ticket is required. For more information, contact the Department of Music at (330) 823-2180.
