Mount Union College Fans Celebrate MUCaw's Tenth Birthday
October 27, 2003
The Mount Union College mascot, MUCaw, celebrated its' tenth birthday on Saturday, October 25, joined by mascots from area schools and businesses.
Mascots from the Akron Aeros, BW3's, Keep Alliance Beautiful, Papa John's Pizza and Rootstown High School attended the game, against Capital University, and helped cheer on the football team with MUCaw and the Mount Union College cheerleaders. The mascots went into the stands during third quarter to meet and greet small children, many of which were there for the NCAA's "Take a Kid to the Game," which was also held that day. Also attending the game were two former MUCaw performers, Heather Drake and Laura Klingler. Drake now performs as "Orbit," the mascot for the Akron Aeros.
Anyone who brought a new toy for MUCaw received free admittance to the game. During the game, MUCaw donated its' toys to the Alliance Professional Firefighters toy drive. Many fans brought a toy for MUCaw, which will benefit area children. Chris Waffler, of the Alliance Professional Firefighters, came to the stadium to accept the toys on behalf of the group.
Nearly 150 people gathered for birthday cake following the game. The guests sang "Happy Birthday" to MUCaw as the cake was cut. Children had the opportunity to meet and have their photos taken with their favorite mascots. There was a raffle, and MUCaw fans had the opportunity to win various sized stuffed MUCaws. Children attending the event also received treat bags and autographed photos of MUCaw.
