September 16, 2008
Members of Mount Union College’s 1846 Society were recognized for their generous contributions to the Annual Fund at a dinner held in their honor on Friday, September 5 at the Fred J. Haupt President’s House.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Dr. E. Karl Schneider ’66, member of the Board of Trustees at Mount Union. He acknowledged the members’ financial contributions to the College as well as their effort to educate students about philanthropy through the “Bucks for MUC” program. $1,373,000 was raised and $796,000 of that total was contributed by the members of the 1846 Society. According to Schneider, their donations made up 55 percent of the total amount raised.
Others who spoke at the dinner included Board member Rev. Jack E. Spencer ’50 who delivered the invocation and Kimberly (Terrill '99) Rodstrom, director of annual giving programs.
Andrew Clutter, a senior business administration major of Salem, was also present to speak about his experience as a student at Mount Union College. He touched upon his growth in the areas of knowledge, friendship and personal transformation.
“Everyone in this room has made Mount Union the place it is,” said Clutter. “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.”
Dr. Richard F. Giese, president of the College, offered the closing remarks.
