Mount Union College Participates in Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service Project

January 16, 2007

Mount Union College held its 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration on Monday, January 15, 2007.

One of the many activities scheduled was a service learning project sponsored by The Office of Service-Learning and Community Service.

Held at the Alliance Neighborhood Center, more than 70 volunteers including Mount Union students, faculty and staff, Alliance community members and Neighborhood Center staff worked hard to help make the day a success.

Projects included cleaning inside and outside, painting the gymnasium and stage, organizing closets and cleaning the kitchen.

'It was wonderful to see so many students willing to come out on such a rainy day and work so hard on what is normally considered to be a day off, ' said Amanda L. Espenschied-Reilly, director of service-learning and community service at Mount Union College. 'Next year I plan to have the service day at more than one location so that we can spread the good work further.'
