Hundreds of alumni will be "coming home" to Mount Union College's campus during the weekend of June 11-13 in celebration of Alumni Weekend 2004 to enjoy a host of events, including class reunions, and reminisce about their days at the institution.

 

 

"Coming Home" is the theme of this year's Alumni Weekend. Kicking off the events will be the annual Alumni/M-Club Golf Scramble on Friday, June 11 at the Tannenhauf Golf Club, followed by the Golden Anniversary Luncheon for the Class of 1954 at the President's Home.

A guided tour of the campus will be departing from the registration area at the Hoover-Price Campus Center (HPPC) at 4 p.m. The afternoon's events will conclude with a Kick-Off Cookout at 5:30 p.m. on the Campus Grounds Patio at the HPCC.

Friday evening events include Greek gatherings for Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta and Sigma Nu. At 8 p.m. at Roadhouse Charly's at 2239 W. State St., there will be a Welcome Back Reception.

Alumni Weekend 2004 will showcase an alumni choir that will rehearse on Friday from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, June 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Rehearsal Hall of Cope Music Hall. The choir will perform later that day at the annual Alumni Luncheon.

Other events to be held on Saturday include a Heritage Club Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Solarium of the HPCC. The Alumni Council will meet at 9 a.m. in the Office of Alumni Activities in van den Eynden Hall and at 9:30 a.m. in the Alumni Room of the HPCC, the National Cabinet of Mount Union Women will be meeting.

At 10 a.m., there will be several special interest sessions. Dr. Patricia Matthews, professor of business administration, the Nolen A. and Thelma I. Cunningham Chair in Business, chair of the Department of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration and advisor of the Investment Team will be joined by members of Oak Associates to discuss the Investment Team's winning year in a presentation titled "Investments in Mount." In addition, Dr. Lewis Phelps, professor emeritus in the Department of Music will present "Reflections on Dr. and Mrs. Phelps' Year-Long Jerusalem Adventure and Larry Kehres, associate professor of physical education, athletic director and head football coach, will discuss "Student Athletes at Mount Union College." Schedules for the special interest sessions will be available at the registration desk of the HPCC.

 

 

At 11 a.m. in the Campus Grounds of the HPCC, Dr. John L. Ewing, Jr., president of Mount Union College, will present "The State of Mount Union College."

The annual Alumni Luncheon will be held at 12:15 p.m. in the Kresge Dining Commons of the HPCC. Alumni Council President C. Reggie Thomas '87 will be master of ceremonies. Special features will include the recognition of the Alumni Service and McKinley Fellow Award recipients and a performance by the alumni choir.

At 2:30 p.m., a self-guided campus tour will be departing from the registration area at the HPCC. A guided open house of Bracy Hall, Mount Union's new natural sciences facility, will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Class reunions will be held that afternoon from 3-6 p.m. at various locations.

A number of open houses will be held on campus Saturday. Some campus facilities will be open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Greek Open houses will take place from 2-3 p.m. The Black Cultural Center, located at 243 W. Simpson St., will host an open house from 2-4 p.m. and the Home of the President will be open from 4:30-6 p.m.

The day will conclude with an Alumni Buffet in the Kresge Dining Commons of the HPCC at 7 p.m.

Both Friday and Saturday, Mount Union Theatre will present "The Wizard of Oz" at 8:15 p.m. The Campus Bookstore will be open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday. In addition, the "Raiders Cove" of the Campus Grounds, formerly known as the "Snack Bar," will be open on Friday from 5-11 p.m. and Saturday until 11 p.m.

On Sunday, June 13, there will be a meditation and memorial service at Dewald Chapel at 9 a.m. and a Farewell Brunch at 10 a.m. in the Kresge Dining Commons of the HPCC.

Overnight accommodations for alumni and families are available in Bica-Ross Residence Hall, an air-conditioned building with suite-type rooms located west of the HPCC.
