Mount Union College Plans for Alumni Weekend on Campus

Mount Union College will welcome back hundreds of alumni to campus for the weekend of June 7 - 9, 2002.

Reflecting on Your College Years" is the theme of this year's alumni week. Kicking off the events will be the annual Alumni/M Club Golf Scramble on Friday, June 7 at the Tannenhauf Golf Club, followed by the Golden Anniversary Luncheon for the Class of 1952 at the new President's Home at noon. At guided tour of the campus begins at the Hoover-Price Campus Center at 4 p.m. The afternoon events will conclude with a Kickoff Cookout at 5:30 p.m. at the Campus Grounds Patio located on the south side of the Campus Center.

The Friday evening events will consist of Greek gatherings and a "Welcome Back" Reception at 8 p.m. at Roadhouse Charly's, where alumni and friends will have the opportunity to reminisce about their college days. The movie "A Beautiful Mind" will be showing at 8:15 p.m. at the Mount Union Theatre.

On Saturday, June 8, the activities include the Heritage Club Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Solarium in the Campus Center and a National Cabinet of Mount Union Women meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the Alumni Room of the Campus Center.

Special interest sessions will be held at 10 a.m. in the Campus Center. The presentations will include "Mount Union's Partnership with Kursk State University in Russia," by Dr. Mark Himmelein, assistant professor of German; "Ready, Set, Go - Preparing Today's Athletes," by Coach Don Montgomery, defensive coordinator of the Purple Raiders; "Bracy Hall - the Future of Science at Mount Union College," by Dr. Truman Turnquist, professor of chemistry and projct Shepard and Richard McLaughlin, director of advancement - planned giving.

President John L. Ewing will be speaking about the "State of Mount Union College" at 11 a.m. in the Campus Grounds, followed by the Alumni Luncheon at 12:15 p.m. in the Kresge Dining Commons. Alumni Association President Robert Buchs '54, will serve as master of ceremonies. Special features of the luncheon will include the recognition of the Alumni Service and McKinley Fellow Award recipients. The Alumni Choir will present a short concert.

There will be a Campus Facility Open House that will be held from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Guided Campus Tours beginning at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Campus Center. Alumni will have the opportunity to have photos taken in the Eckler Garden from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The new President's Home will be open from 2:30 - 5 p.m. and the Greek Open Houses will take place from 2 - 3 p.m. Class reunions for the Mount Union classes of 1927, 1932, 1937, 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992 and 1997 will be held from 2 - 6 p.m. at various locations.

An alumni buffet will take place at 7 p.m. in the Kresge Dining Commons at the Campus Center at 7 p.m. The movie "A Beautiful Mind," will be showing at the Mount Union Theatre at 8:15 p.m.

On Sunday, June 9 there will be a meditation and memorial service at the Dewald Chapel at 9 a.m., followed by a farewell brunch at 10 a.m. in the Kresge Dining Commons.
