Mount Union College Players Present "The Curate Shakespeare, As You Like It"

April 22, 2010

The Mount Union Players will present The Curate Shakespeare, As You Like It, November 15 through the 17th at 8 p.m. in Rodman Playhouse.

Written by Don Nigro, the play focuses on a third rate troupe of actors attempting to perform Shakespeare's As You Like It. Various problems arise such as the lead actor leaving to become a professional wrestler. The lead actress has apparently gone mad; she recites stage directions yet is incapable of saying her lines. To add to the hilarity, when the troupe arrives at the theatre they find an empty stage, no sets and possibly no audience, leaving the remaining members of the company, including the Curate, facing a performance with mismatched props and costumes.

The Mount Union cast includes Matthew Antonini, a freshman from Fombell, PA as William; Carrie Coon, a junior from Norton as Rosalind; Lee Hannahs, a junior from Ravenna as Amiens; Shawn Kerns, a senior from Bellefontaine as the Curate; Aimee Rankin, a freshman from Connellsville, PA as Audrey; Matthew Sirocky, a junior from Brookpark as the clown and Jennifer Spragg, a senior from Martins Ferry as Celia.

The Mount Union production is directed by Rudy Roggenkamp, associate professor and chair of the theatre department.
