Mount Union College Student to Perform in Solo con Tutti Concert on April 18

April 15, 2010

Mount Union College and the Alliance Symphony Orchestra will present the Solo con Tutti Concerto Competition on Sunday, April 18 at 3 p.m. in the Alliance High School Auditorium.  The concert will feature a piano solo performance by Marina Iwao, sophomore of Fukuoka, Japan.

Iwao is a winner of the collegiate award and will perform Ludwig von Beethoven’s “Concerto No. 1 in C Major.”  She is pursuing a bachelor of music degree in piano performance and is a student of Dr. Maira Liliestedt, assistant professor of music at Mount Union.

“Beethoven is my favorite composer,” Iwao said.  “I am excited to play this piece as my first concerto experience.”  Iwao auditioned for the Solo Con Tutti competition in November 2009 and this will be her first performance with the orchestra.

Accompanying Iwao will be a 70-member community and student orchestra who will perform works by Berlioz, Bizet, Saens and Glinka.  “I am looking forward to playing with the Alliance Orchestra,” Iwao said.  “This is going to be a totally different experience from any solo performances that I’ve had.”  In addition to the performance, a pre-concert chat with conductor Rebecca Stinson will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Senior tickets are $8 each, adult admission is $10 and children and students are free.  Arts in Stark and Alliance Concert Association cardholders receive a two-for-one ticket discount.  For more information about auditions, tickets orders, or to request a symphony ensemble performance at an event, contact orchestra manager Cynthia Kreiner at (330) 829-8102 or visit
