Mount Union College Students and Legislators Meet on Ohio Higher Education Issues
May 25, 2010
Mount Union College students had the opportunity to meet with the legislators from their school’s district as well as those from their hometown districts in Ohio as part of the 13th annual Student Lobby Day event organized by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio (AICUO).
With the recent release of the Ohio Strategic Plan for Higher Education, Student Lobby Day participants had the opportunity to ask their legislators to remember the state’s cost-effective investment in independent college students.
Students participating in Lobby Day also had the opportunity to tour the Statehouse and attend committee meetings occurring that day.
Dr. Eric Matthews, director of the Center for Public Service at Mount Union attended along with students Callie Zurz of Uniontwon, Jessica Kreager of Heath, Amber Jaeb of Louisville, Lucille Gotch of Louisville, Matt Hrubey of Berea, Alecia Varner of Wellington and Josh Donnelly of Solon.
AICUO was organized in 1969 to represent the interests of its members to Ohio's lawmakers, regulators and citizens. AICUO seeks to strengthen student financial aid programs and bring about a greater understanding of the impact and contributions of Ohio independent colleges and universities. At the same time, AICUO works to promote the well-being of Ohio higher education as a whole, with special regard for the dual private/public nature of the responsibility to serve the educational, social, and cultural needs of the state and the nation.
