Mount Union College Team Participates in Relay for Life
June 27, 2003
During the weekend of May 30 and 31, a team of Mount Union College employees participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life for the eighth consecutive year. Relay for Life for Alliance and the surrounding areas was held at the Marlington High School Stadium.
Mount Union College employees who participated during the relay included Team Captain Linda Montgomery, Joan Cockrill, Nikki Hensley, Carol Wearstler, Jo Van Fossen, Rhonda Stephenson, Aimee Schuller, Diana Snyder, Terri Blasiman, Jody Malsch, Debbie Knepp, Kathy Lavery and Patti Owen.
The Mount Union team won second place in the Tent Site Decorating contest, and the popular College mascot, MUCaw, helped further fundraising efforts by posing for photo buttons which were sold to Relay participants.
The Luminary Ceremony took place after dark with luminaries lit, which circled the track and spelled out "HOPE" in the bleachers. Luminaries were purchased in memory or in honor of a cancer patient. Luminary names were then read out loud while soft music played.
The Mount Union College team was ranked at the Silver Giving Level for the first time since participating in the Relay. This was due in part to the successful Relay for Life Basket Auction, which was held in April and garnered $2,000. By the close of the Relay, the Mount Union College team had raised a total of $3,300.
