MOUNT UNION COLLEGE TO HOST DATE-RAPE DISCUSSION

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Mount Union College has invited Katie Koestner to speak Tuesday, March 27 at 8 p.m. in Mount Union Theatre as part of a date-rape education program.

A date-rape survivor and sexual assault prevention advocate, Koestner has received national attention for her program entitled, "No/Yes." Since graduating from the College of William and Mary in Virginia in 1994, she has presented her program to hundreds of thousands of students at over 800 colleges, high schools and military institutions in 47 states and internationally.

In addition, she appeared on the June 3, 1991 cover of TIME magazine and in 1993 completed an HBO special, "No Visible Bruises: The Katie Koestner Story." She also has appeared on such programs as "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Geraldo," "NBC Nightly News," "CNBC Talk Live," "Larry King Live," "Entertainment Tonight," "Good Morning America," and several others.

Furthermore, her activities as an advocate extend to working for passage of federal sexual assault legislation, including the Campus Sexual Assault Victim's Bill of Rights in 1992, and working as a policy consultant with regard to sexual assault on college campuses.

Koestner has authored a chapter for a book on the backlash to the Women's Anti-Violence Movement and is the co-author of several guidebooks geared toward colleges.
