Mount Union College to Host Relay for Life April 4-5

More than 50 teams are expected to participate in this year’s Alliance Area Relay for Life, to be held in the Peterson Field House of Mount Union College on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.
Friday’s events will kick off with the opening ceremonies – including the Survivor Lap and Caregiver Lap as well as the Team Banner Lap – at 6 p.m. A Survivor Reception will follow in the Solarium of the Hoover-Price Campus Center while themed laps and music will continue to entertain in Peterson Field House throughout the night.
Locks for Love will be hosting a hair cutting ceremony at 7 p.m. for those wishing to donate hair to create hair pieces for cancer patients. A Chick Flicks Hour will be held at 7 p.m. followed by Sports Movie Hour at 8 p.m. A Giant Game of Tug of War will be held during this hour, too. Magician Jim Klayder will perform from 8-11 p.m.
The Luminary Ceremony will begin at 9 p.m. Luminaries are lit to honor survivors and those battling cancer and in memory of loves ones who lost their battles.
The ceremony will be followed by additional entertainment events at 10 p.m. including the Miss Relay/Congeniality Contest, featuring gentleman representatives of the participating teams. The contestant with the most “votes” (the most money collected) will be crowned Miss Relay 2008. Relay Karaoke follows at 11 p.m.
The fun will continue throughout the night and early morning hours. At midnight, a pajama party will take place along with a Who Wants to be a Millionaire contest featuring cancer questions. Alliance High School’s Human All Along band will perform from 1-2 a.m.
At 2 a.m., a Pie in the Face event will be held and Mount Union’s premier improv comedy troupe will present Laughingstock. A Documentary Film Hour will be held at 4 a.m. along with a Photo Scavenger Hunt. A prize will be awarded for the best pictures, so bring your camera.
A musical hour will be held at 5 a.m. followed by Country Western Hour at 6 a.m. featuring a Line Dance Hour. Aerobics will be offered at 7 a.m. followed by Dance Movie Hour featuring a dance off. Final fundraising amounts will be announced as well as the teams winning a number of awards. Closing ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m.
