Mount Union College to host Solaris Wind Quintet April 7

Mount Union College will be hosting the Solaris Wind Quintet on Monday April 7 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.
Solaris has established a reputation as one of the most innovative and musically compelling woodwind quintets in the United States. Along with their regular concert series at the University of Akron, Solaris has played throughout Northeast Ohio and toured Italy, Brazil and Sweden as well as other areas of the United States.
Quintet members include George Pope, Cynthia Watson, Kristina Belisle, William Hoyt and Barrick Stees. Pope is professor of flute at The University of Akron and instructor of flute at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory. Principal flute of the Akron Symphony from 1978-2002, Pope has been principal flute of the Blossom Festival Orchestra since 2005. Watson is principal oboe of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and a new member of the acclaimed IRIS Orchestra. She teaches at The University of Akron and spends summers teaching at the Masterworks Festival in Indiana. Belisle is associate professor of clarinet at The University of Akron and principal clarinetist of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Blossom Festival Band and the Blossom Festival Orchestra. Hoyt is professor of horn at The University of Akron. He performs regularly with the Paragon Brass Quintet, the Jazz Unit and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. Stees is assistant principal bassoonist of the Cleveland Orchestra. He teaches at The University of Akron and the Cleveland Institute of Music.
The concert will include works by Igor Stravinsky, Karel Husa, Alec Wilder, Luciano Berio and George Gershwin.
