Mount Union College to Welcome Alumni Back to Campus

The Class of 1954 will celebrate their Golden Anniversary as part of the Mount Union College Alumni Weekend festivities, to be held Friday, June 11 ' Sunday, June 13.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday, June 11 will be an Alumni/M Club Golf Scramble at Tannenhauf Golf Club, which will be followed by the Golden Anniversary Luncheon for the Class of 1954 at noon at the home of President and Mrs. John L. Ewing. Following the luncheon, a guided tour of the campus and its newest facilities will begin at 4 p.m. in the Hoover-Price Campus Center. Sign-ups for the tour can be done in the registration area of the Campus Center. The afternoon will conclude with a Kickoff Cookout from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Campus Grounds patio, located on the south side of the Campus Center.

The evening will consist of Greek gatherings and a "Welcome Back" Reception at 8 p.m. at Roadhouse Charly's, where alumni and friends will have the opportunity to reminisce about their college days. At 7 p.m., the Alumni Choir will hold a rehearsal in Cope Music Hall. In addition, 'The Wizard of Oz' will be showing at 8:15 p.m. in Mount Union Theatre. Complimentary coupons will be available at the registration area located in the Campus Center. Plan to visit the Campus Grounds 'Raiders' Cove' (formerly the Snack Bar) in the Campus Center to enjoy some snack bar favorites. The Raiders' Cove will be open from 5 ' 11 p.m.

Saturday's activities will include a Heritage Club Breakfast, a National Cabinet of Mount Union Women meeting and an Alumni Council Meeting. The Alumni Choir will rehearse beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Cope Music Hall. Campus Facility Open Houses are scheduled from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Details will be available at the registration area, located in the Campus Center.

Special Interest Sessions will begin at 10 a.m. Dr. Patricia Matthews, professor of business administration, along with the members of the student Investment Team and Oak Associates (sponsor of the Investment Team contest) will present details of their winning year in the 'Investments in Mount' interest session. Dr. Lewis Phelps, professor emeritus, will present 'Reflections on Dr. and Mrs. Phelps' Year-Long Jerusalem Adventure.' Larry Kehres, athletic director and head football coach, and a group of student/athletes will present 'Student Athletes at Mount Union College,' an inspiring program on what it takes to be a winner in and out of the classroom. Schedules and more details will be available at the registration desk.

Following the sessions, Dr. John L. Ewing, Jr., president of the College, will give his remarks, 'The State of Mount Union College,' at 11 a.m. in Campus Grounds. The Alumni Luncheon is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. in Kresge Dining Commons. The luncheon will feature Alumni Association President C. Reggie Thomas '87 as master of ceremonies, who will present several awards, including the Dodie Davis Alumni Service and McKinley Fellow Awards. There will also be a performance by the 2004 Alumni Choir.

Greek Open Houses will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Black Cultural Center will hold an open house from 2 ' 4 p.m., at 243 West Simpson. Class reunions will take place from 3 ' 6 p.m. for the classes of 1929, 1934, 1939, 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994 and 1999.

A self-guided campus tour will be departing from the Campus Center at 2:30 p.m. There will be a guided tour of Bracy Hall, the new science building which opened for classes in 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at Bracy Hall.

Alumni and friends will have the opportunity to join President Ewing and his wife, Cynthia, for an Open House at the Home of the President from 4:30 ' 6 p.m. An Alumni Buffet will follow at 7 p.m. in Kresge Dining Commons and 'The Wizard of Oz' will be shown at 8:15 p.m. in Mount Union Theatre. Complimentary coupons will be available at the registration area in the Campus Center. The Campus Grounds Raiders' Cove will be open until 11 p.m.

The Alumni Weekend events will wrap up on Sunday with a Meditation and Memorial Service at 9 a.m. in Dewald Chapel. A Farewell Brunch will follow at 10 a.m. in Kresge Dining Commons.

The Bookstore will be open on Friday, June 11 from 9 a.m. ' 6 p.m. and on Saturday, June 12 from 10 a.m. ' 4 p.m.

All interested alumni and friends of the College are invited to attend Alumni Weekend. Registration will be open Friday, June 11 from 11 a.m. ' 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 12 from 8:30 a.m. ' 3 p.m. in the Campus Center.
