Mount Union Holds Girls and Women in Sports Day
April 02, 2009
Mount Union College, in conjunction with the YWCA, Girl Scouts of America and the Alliance Department of Parks and Recreation hosted the National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 29 at the Alliance YWCA.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day was established in 1986 to celebrate the achievements of girls and women in sports. The event is a collaborative effort that allows representatives of women’s sports to educate young women about the benefits of sport and to encourage girls and women to participate in sports.
This was the consecutive year the College has hosted the event for elementary and middle school aged girls. The event consisted of six sport stations – volleyball, throwing and catching, cheerleading, foot skills, health education and stretching drills. There were over 100 girl scouts there eager to learn from the Mount Union students.
After the stations, the girls got a visit from Mount Union mascot MUCaw and enjoyed punch and cookies. Each participant also received a t-shirt.
