Mount Union Holds Townhouse Open House

The University of Mount Union held an open house for its third apartment-style housing village on Wednesday, August 10 from 4 – 7 p.m. for the Mount Union and Alliance communities. During the open house, individuals had the opportunity to tour a townhouse within the trio of three-story complexes, located in the 1400 block of South Union Avenue at the southwest corner of Overlook Drive.  
 
Students will begin to move into the apartments Friday in preparation for the beginning of the 2011-2012 Academic Year.
 
Highlights of the apartment-style complex include:
  • Three 30,000-square-foot buildings containing 16 townhouses each
  • Capacity to house a total of 188 students and one resident director
  • Three-story units, with the exception of a handful of two-story units that are handicap accessible
  • Parking for 214 vehicles
  • Large, open green space for student recreation
  • Extensive landscaping around all sides of the buildings and adjacent to the neighboring single-family homes

Each three story townhouse will contain:
  • A living room, full kitchen and half bath on the first floor
  • Two bedrooms and a full bath on the second floor
  • Two bedrooms, a full bath and laundry  on the third floor
Handicap accessible units will include a living room, full kitchen, one full bedroom, a full bath and laundry on the first floor and three bedrooms and a full bath on the second floor.
 
The apartment complex speaks to Mount Union’s commitment to sustainability as it has been designed in accordance with silver LEED standards. The complex includes high efficiency HVAC systems, fluorescent lighting fixtures, low-flow showers and toilets, carpeting made from recycled materials, low VOC adhesives, paint with low VOC content, locally manufactured building products including brick, wood and stone materials, triple pane windows and bike racks.
