April 27, 2010

ALLIANCE, Ohio - A retirement concert honoring Dr. Lewis Phelps, professor of music at Mount Union College, will be held Sunday, March 25 at 3 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

Phelps, having dedicated 31 years of service to the College and community, will retire in May.

The recital will be a performance of Phelps' own compositions written for students and colleagues at Mount Union and for neighbors, children and grandchildren. The works will be performed by fellow faculty members, students, alumni and prospective Mount Union students.

Also, the Mount Union Choir will perform four original hymns and the recital will conclude with two hymn arrangements for choir, congregation, organ and antiphonal trumpets and horns.

According to Phelps, the recital of his music represents, "A parting gift to the Mount Union College community from a retiree. It is also my Senior Culminating Experience as I prepare to graduate with the class of 2001."
