Student Debate Planned for March 21

A student debate is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, in Chapman Hall Room 111 at the University of Mount Union.
The topic for the debate will be “Resolved that value voters, religious conservatives and voters concerned about specific moral issues, constitute a distraction from the normal operations of American democracy.”
Students from Walsh University and the University of Mount Union will participate in the event. Judges will include representatives from Walsh and Mount Union, as well as a local attorney.
Dr. Santosh Saha, professor of history at Mount Union, has organized student debates about topics of national importance since 1994.
All participants will receive a certificate. The winning debate team will receive a gift from the Department of Communication and the consolation prize will be a gift from the Office of Alumni Relations and University Activities. Outstanding debate prizes will be awarded to first ($70), second ($60) and third ($50) place winners.
Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m. and the debate will begin at 5:30 p.m.
