April 27, 2010
The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will host Carnation Days at the Nature Center, a community open house in celebration of Alliance's Carnation Festival, on Thursday, August 17.
A Family Walk and Pond Exploration will kick-off the day's events with groups departing from the Visitor's Center at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to view plankton from the ponds with the use of microscopes.
Visitors to the Nature Center can enjoy one of two Active Walks, departing from the Visitor's Center at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. This walk of the outer perimeter of the Nature Center offers individuals the opportunity to participate in a more challenging activity.
The day's scheduled events will conclude with a Night Walk from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
During the day from 3 to 10 p.m., a number of informational materials will be available at the front desk of the Visitor's Center, including maps of the Nature Center, information on the Nature Center's labyrinths, Ohio native plant self-guided trail maps and bird checklists for use in the Bird Observatory.
The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off Route 183. The Visitor's Center and Bird Observatory are open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Both are closed on Mondays.
