Mount Union Plans 2015 Homecoming Events

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union will host Alumni Weekend and Homecoming Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11.
With Raiders of all ages filling the campus, there will be plenty of activities available for everyone. At 8 p.m. on Friday, the annual Mr. UMU contest will occur in Brush Theatre of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.
On Saturday, the 32nd annual 5K Run-A-MUC will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the MAAC, with race day check-in beginning at 6:30 a.m. in the MAAC lobby. Participants must read and agree to the waiver on the registration form to participate, and preregister by Friday, October 2. Immediately following Run-a-MUC, a Kids Race for children 7 and under will take place. The race consists of one lap around the track and pre-registration is required to ensure everyone receives a prize.
The annual Alumni Brunch honoring Alumni Award recipients will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the tent located in King Hall parking lot. The event is open to the public. Tickets are required by calling (330) 823-2030 prior to October 2. Cost is $12 for adults (ages 10 and up) and $5 for children (ages 2-9).
Greek Open Houses will be held throughout the day and the Giese Center for the Performing Arts will be open for tours from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
From 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., the John Hampu Band will perform on the south side of the stadium near the Gulling Center parking lot. Alumni weekend T-shirts will be for sale for $10 in the Field House from 11 a.m. to 1:25 p.m.
At 12:15 p.m., a parade will wind through campus beginning at the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. The parade will head west on Simpson Street toward the campus center and turn onto Stadium Drive to go past the stadium before ending at Beeghly Hall.
At 1:30 p.m., the Mount Union football team will take on Ohio Northern in Mount Union Stadium. Tickets can be purchased online through the athletic site. During halftime, the 2015 Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned.
Hypnotist Chris Jones will be in Campus Grounds of the Hoover-Price Campus Center at 6:30 p.m. to show off his abilities. The event is free and open to the public.
The Mount Union women’s soccer team will play against OAC rival Ohio Northern at 7 p.m. in UMU’s stadium.
To end the day, Mount Union students will perform “Standing on my Knees”in the Brush Performance Hall. This powerful play is an affecting study of a gifted young poet struggling to come to terms with the schizophrenia that is undermining her art and her life. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for senior/veteran and free for current students. On Sunday, along with many other alumni activities, the Alliance Symphony Orchestra will perform in the Brush Performance Hall at 3 p.m. This performance will include Mount Union faculty member Dr. Jim Perone, as well as several Mount Union alumni. Advance tickets are not required.
Several alumni reunions are planned for the weekend as well. On Friday, a gathering will be held for the Classes of 1954-1955 from 4 to 8 p.m. The Class of 1990 will hold its 25th reunion reception at 5:30 p.m.; a band reunion will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. and a 2005 reunion gathering will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, milestone reunions will be held for the classes of '70, '75, '80, '85, '90, '95, '00, '05 and '10.
