Mount Union Ranked by Washington Monthly

ALLIANCE, Ohio — Once again, the University of Mount Union was ranked among the nation’s top colleges and universities in a report released recently by Washington Monthly.

Mount Union was ranked among the top 40 baccalaureate colleges and universities in the nation in its 2013 rankings. Mount Union is ranked 38th among the 350 institutions that Washington Monthly included in the category.

According to Washington Monthly’s website, schools are rated based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research and service.

“This ranking truly reflects our mission to prepare students for fulfilling lives, meaningful work and responsible citizenship,” said Dr. Richard F. Giese, president of the University. “The University of Mount Union is dedicated to providing students with a well-rounded education and opportunities to serve their communities while on campus. In addition, we continually strive to expand opportunities for student and faculty research as defined in our strategic plan.”

Mount Union has consistently fared well in national rankings and was recently ranked the top college for the money in the Great Lakes Region by and as one of the top schools in Ohio for the greatest lifetime return on investment by In addition, the University of Mount Union was ranked in the top 13% of four-year, accredited private and public colleges and universities nationally by Forbes and was the only Stark County institution to make the list. For 22 consecutive years, Mount Union has appeared in U.S. News and World Report’s annual listing of the best colleges and universities. The University has also been named a Green College by The Princeton Review’s Green Guide.
