Mount Union’s Second Annual Trash to Treasure Sale to Benefit Area United Way Agencies

Mount Union’s second annual move-out day benefit sale and recycling project, “Trash to Treasure: Clean the MUC” will be held Wednesday, May 5 – Thursday, May 6. The project was instituted to empower every student, staff and faculty member to address the issue of waste reduction/recycling, as well as serve the Alliance community.

From April 26-May 4, recyclables such as furniture, appliances, kitchenware, electronics, clothing and accessories, as well as other miscellaneous items will be collected in all residence halls and then sorted at the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) house in preparation for the sale. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to drop off recyclables at the ATO house during that time.

As students move out of their residence halls they throw out massive amounts of food, old appliances and other valuables. This project presents the opportunity to recycle these materials and raise funds to benefit area United Way agencies.

On Wednesday, May 5 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Thursday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon, items will be sold at the Alpha Tau Omega house. This sale is open to the public and all proceeds will go to benefit area United Way agencies. Any remaining items will be disbursed to Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, Alliance Food Pantry, YMCA, Alliance Domestic Violence Shelter and the YWCA at the close of the sale.

Appliances (coffee makers, irons, microwaves, vacuums, refrigerators)

Electronics (TVs, CD players, extension cords, power strips, batteries, cell phones)

Furniture (futons, chairs, tables)

Food (canned goods, other nonperishable items)

School supplies

Decorations (curtains, mirrors, etc.)

Misc. (cleaning supplies, paper products, disposable containers, fish tanks)

Carpets will not be accepted this year.



We’ll accept donations at the end of spring semester. Look for signs in residence halls and apartment complexes for details on where to drop off donations. There will be drop off locations in residence hall lobbies or you may bring your items to the Alpha Tau Omega house during the collection days from April 26-May 4.



Appliances and Electronics: Check to make sure that the appliances and electronic equipment being donated work.

Clothing: Make sure donated clothing is clean and placed in a bag.
