Mount Union Senior Among Finalists in Jacobs Field Wedding Sweepstakes

April 26, 2007

Mount Union College senior Nicole Seifert and her fianc' Ryan Hartzell, an Alliance native, are among three lucky couples who have been chosen as finalists in the Get Married at Jacobs Field Sweepstakes.

Seifert, an exercise science major of Barberton, played softball for Mount Union and is now an assistant varsity softball coach at Alliance High School.

Hartzell has strong connections to Mount Union, too. He is the grandson of graduates Jack and Joy (Stevenson '51) Miller '50 of Alliance.

A graduate of Ashland University where he was an All-American pitcher, Hartzell went on to play professional baseball in the Independent League for the Washington Wild Things and Florence Freedom. Returning to Alliance, he is an assistant varsity baseball coach at Alliance High School.

'Our players and fellow coaches set us up to meet after a big win one night and we have been together ever since,' said Seifert. 'We share a special love for the game as well as each other. The game of baseball is the reason we are together and we would love nothing more than to say our vows on home plate at Jacob's Field!'

Baseball in general and Indian's baseball in particular is definitely in their blood, as demonstrated in the video clip they submitted for the contest. In it, Seifert proudly displays the jar of dirt collected by Jack Miller from the last game played at the old Indian's stadium on October 3, 1993. 'We would love nothing more than to stand in the dirt at Jacob's Field to exchange our vows,' said Seifert.

The Ultimate Wedding Giveaway is sponsored by the Cleveland Indians, Q104 and Channel 3. The winning couple will be chosen by online voting, which will take place through June 2, 2007. For more information, visit http://cleveland.indians.mlb.com/cle/fan_forum/wedding_giveaway.jsp.
