Mount Union Senior Spends Summer Down South

April 27, 2010

Jeremy Miller, a senior media studies major from Toronto, Ohio, spent his summer working with Country Music Television in Nashville, Tennessee.

The internship started on May 20 and Miller's southern summer ended on July 27. During that time, Miller worked as an intern in the production, music and events department. 'Specifically, I worked a lot with the team that shoots the Studio 330 Sessions for CMT Loaded, on the CMT website and other performances by musicians,' said Miller.

Miller searched CMT's website and found that they had an internship program. Not expecting to get it, he applied for the position. But, in the end he received what he applied for. 'I have always loved music, including country, and I have become very interested in working with video and entertainment,' said Miller. 'I wanted to find something that had all of that ' and I did.'

Miller enjoyed working for CMT and was very comfortable with the work environment. CMT is a very casual, laid back place, with no real dress code and easygoing people to work with. 'I think this is great because it makes you very comfortable and when you feel comfortable and relaxed, you are going to work better.' He said. 'I actually looked forward to getting up every day and going to work.'

Miller credits Mark Bergmann with helping him through his career at Mount Union, and with the internship. 'He has pretty much taught me everything I know about working with video and audio,' he said. 'He really gave me a lot of help on the application process.'

The internship will open doors to Miller's future. He has had the experience to work with people who have allowed him the chance to receive valuable hands-on experience. Miller has been able to film and have an active role in daily tasks. He has also learned a lot about the technical end of production.

'The knowledge I have gained is priceless,' said Miller. 'I have learned from some of the best in the business - true professionals. I have learned not only the 'technical' side, such as working with cameras and video editing, but I have also learned a lot on the managerial side of production.

'This internship has also allowed me to make a lot of great contacts in the business. It gives me a great look into just what it is like to work in the business, which is exactly what I want to do when I graduate.'
