Mount Union Stadium Celebration Planned

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Mount Union Stadium on Saturday, September 27 with an afternoon of events, culminating with the Purple Raiders home opener against Marietta College at 7 p.m.

Since its dedication in 1914, Mount Union Stadium has hosted everything from Mount Union and Alliance High School football games, concerts, campus and community events along with being the home of the Raiders' men's and women's track and field, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's lacrosse teams.

The stadium is the oldest college football stadium in Ohio and everyone is invited to join in the daylong celebration of this historic facility.

2 – 3 p.m., Stadium Rededication
Mount Union Stadium will be rededicated in a public ceremony that includes the unveiling of an Ohio Historical Marker just outside the stadium in the southwest corner of the facility.

3 – 4 p.m., Tours of Dom Capers Press Box
Get a chance to tour the Dom Capers Press Box that was completed in 2013.

3:30 – 6:30 p.m., Tailgate Party
The tailgate pregame party will be held on Hartshorn Street between the townhouses and the Gulling Training Center parking lot. For just $5, you can grab a bite to eat while listening to music from Jimmy and the Soulblazers, John Hampu Band and Ohio Weather Band. Pay at the door for the cookout which will be located in the tent.

7 p.m., Mount Union vs. Marietta Football Game
The Purple Raiders take on Marietta in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup. During halftime, the Mount Union and Alliance High School marching bands will perform. In addition, Mount Union’s 2014 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Team and the 1974 Cross Country National Championship Team will be recognized. The stadium gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and tickets will be available at the gates.
