Mount Union Student Newspaper the "Dynamo" Goes Online in 2008

January 15, 2008

The Mount Union College newspaper, The Dynamo, will be available online beginning January 23. Powered by College Publishers, an online publishing service designed specifically for college newspapers, the new electronic format will expand news interest and readership and allow the staff to provide Web-only content such as podcasts, blogs and multimedia.

There will be two ways to access The Dynamo online, either directly through or as an email subscription. Advantages to a subscription include immediate updates on breaking stories, direct email delivery of the newest edition as soon as it is electronically published, and the ability to comment on stories online.

“I am really excited to see The Dynamo evolve and look forward to the expanded access and participation the new online format will allow,” senior editor, Jacey Jenkins, said. “With our interactive Web site, the possibilities are endless.”

To kick off the launch of The Dynamo online, there will be a special 10-week Web-only series of stories dealing with cancer prevention.

The Dynamo will still be available in print as well as on-line.

“Making The Dynamo available online will allow anyone connected with Mount Union to stay connected to the College regardless of location,” Dr. Len Cooper, Dynamo adviser and assistant professor of communication, said. “Publishing an electronic version of the paper is also a great opportunity for students. Most newspapers have a Web presence and media professionals in this new converged media environment write blogs, produce podcasts and create multimedia news stories. Our students will be able to do all of those things on the new Web site. I’m excited because this will provide an excellent training ground for Mount Union students.”
