May 05, 2010

Mount Union College Model United Nations students competed at the American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago on November 17 to 20.

The conference simulated the United Nations and consisted of twelve different committees dealing with various topics. Over 50 schools from across the United States participated, representing 120 countries.

Mount Union College represented the Czech Republic and Rwanda by having eighteen students participate. The Mount Union Model United Nations team received two awards for Outstanding Delegation for its representation of Rwanda in the Second and Third General Assembly Committees.

This is Mount Union's fourth time participating in the American Model United Nations conference. In February, the Model United Nations teams hope to have the same success at the Midwest Model United Nations Conference in St. Louis.

Since the founding of Model UN at Mount Union, the club has grown dramatically not only in membership but in the number and caliber of conferences and other opportunities offered to its participants. Model UN has numerous plans for the future including a return to New York for a special training session that includes a trip to the real United Nations and competitions in Chicago, Cleveland and New York.
