May 05, 2010
Mount Union College students donated a total of 390 cans of food to the Alliance Emergency Residence, through a canned food drive coordinated by the College office of service learning and the Mount Union Bookstore.
The food drive was held November 10 - 14. Anyone bringing in one canned good received a 10 percent discount on one clothing item in the Bookstore. Those bringing two cans received a 20 percent discount.
Jennifer Broome, director of service learning and community service, and sophomore Jo Harvey of Massillon transported the cans to the Emergency Residence.
According to Broome and Mary Fisher, director of the Bookstore, the number of canned goods collected far exceeded the expectations.
"We were very pleased," said Broome.
