Mount Union Students Raise $54,864 for St. Jude

ALLIANCE, Ohio — University of Mount Union students raised $54,864 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and celebrated their philanthropic achievements at an Up ‘til Dawn finale event held March 31.
For the last four years, students at Mount Union have participated in Up ‘Til Dawn, a national collegiate fundraiser that benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Each year, an Up ‘til Dawn executive board of 10 students is selected through an interview process. The board seeks participation from student groups and participants launch a letter sending campaign. According to Jessica Douglas, assistant director of student involvement and leadership and Up ‘Til Dawn advisor, students are encouraged to send donation letters to family, friends and anyone else they know. Letters are typically sent in November, and a finale event is held each spring to reveal the amount of money that was raised. Douglas said around 300 students participated in this year’s letter writing campaign.
During this year’s Up ‘Til Dawn event, a speaker from St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital shared information on the hospital with students. Students also enjoyed free food, made their own candy and tie-dyed T-shirts, participated in an open mic and watched the movie “Space Jam.” This year’s event was held in conjunction with Greek Week at Mount Union.
In the last four years, Mount Union students have raised more than $250,000 to help fund children’s cancer research and treatment, according to Douglas.
