Mount Union Students to Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods October 31

May 24, 2010

On Saturday, October 31, Mount Union College student organizations will be trick or treating for canned goods around the Alliance community.

“Last year, more than 2,500 canned goods were collected to benefit the Alliance Area Domestic Violence Shelter and Alliance Food Pantry,” said Amanda Espenschied-Reilly, director of service-learning and community service. “The response from the community was incredible and we’re very excited to do this event again this year.”

Informational flyers about the event will be distributed in advance to educate the Alliance residents about the event and encourage them to donate.

Trick-or-Treat for canned goods with the Office of Service-Learning and Community Service supports hunger awareness. This year Sophomore Service, the men's and women's swimming teams, Alpha Phi Omega, AmeriCorps MC3, Alpha Delta Pi and Delta Sigma Tau have already signed up. The swim teams will be helping to sort and deliver the food after the event is over.

Every student group planning to participate needs to register no later than Thursday, October 22 so that routes can be assigned, name tags distributed and flyers educating the residents about the event can be distributed throughout the community.

For more information, contact the Office of Service-Learning and Community Service (330) 823-2838 or with any questions or to register for a trick-or-treating route.
