Mount Union Takes Home “Battle of the Brains” Prize

Battle of the Brains teamCANTON, Ohio – A team comprised of four University of Mount Union freshmen and one junior took home first place in the College Club of Canton’s (COC) first annual “Battle of the Brains” competition Thursday night at Glenoak High School.

Mount Union was one of four schools participating in the event including Kent State University at Stark, Walsh University and Malone University. The trivia competition was tournament-style and adhering to the rules of Stark County academic challenge competitions.

Kent State-Stark defeated Malone in the first round while Mount Union topped Walsh, setting up the final round. Mount Union was able to claim the victory over Kent State-Stark to take home the trophy and bragging rights for the next year.

The team from Mount Union was comprised of Rebecca Cooper ’18 of Newton Falls, Ohio, Adrian Vasu ’19 of Alliance, Ohio, John Riley ’20 of Cheswick, Pennsylvania, Logan McGee ’20 of East Canton, Ohio and Tia Swallow ’20 of Canton, Ohio. All five students are members of the Honors Program at Mount Union.

Proceeds from ticket sales and raffles benefitted the COC’s Scholarship Loan Program.
