Mount Union to hold Gordon Heffern Business Ethics Lecture

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union will hold the Gordon Heffern Business Ethics Lecture at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 in Brush Performance Hall in the Giese Center for the Performing Arts.
This year’s Heffern Lecture will feature Vice President of Insurance Risk Management and Technical Documentation for Invacare Corporation, Gretchen L. Schuler. She will present “Business with a Conscience.”
Schuler received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mount Union and her Master of Arts degree from Cleveland State University. She is accredited by the Insurance Institute of America as an Associate in Claims (AIC) and an Associate in Insurance Services (AIS). Schuler manages Invacare's global insurance and North American technical writing program, as well as North American product liability claims and litigation for all Invacare products including power wheelchairs, oxygen concentrators, patient lifts and walkers.
Schuler is an active and distinguished member of her community as well as the Mount Union community. She was a recipient of Crain’s Cleveland Business 2012 “40 under 40” award, received a North Olmsted High School Distinguished Alumni award, has been named City of North Olmsted Citizen of the Year, is a member of the North Olmsted Kiwanis, City of North Olmsted Landmarks Commission and Junior Achievement. Schuler received the Young Alumni Award from Mount Union, is a member of the Alumni Council and is the Audit Committee Chair and Board Secretary for the Mount Union Board of Trustees.
Schuler has given numerous conference and seminar presentations, including “Social Media and Cyber Threats to Product Manufacturers: Strategies for Protecting the Brand” at the 2014 ALFA Product Liability Conference and “Playing Nice with Defense Counsel” at the 2014 RIMS Great Lakes Regional Conference. She has also published multiple professional journal articles in publications such as Claims Management and HME Business.
There will be a short reception following the lecture.
The Gordon Heffern Business Ethics Lecture was established by the late Mount Union Trustee Gordon Heffern to encourage dialogue about the practical ways in which spirituality can transform the workplace. Heffern, a graduate of the University of Virginia, served as chairman of the board of Society Corporation before retiring in 1987.
