Mount Union Welcomes New Faculty Members, Coach

Mount Union Welcomes 18 New Faculty Members

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The University of Mount Union has added 17 new faculty members and one head coach to its ranks.

Dr. Nezam Al-Nsair, RN, of North Canton, OH will join the Mount Union faculty in the fall as director of nursing. Prior to joining Mount Union, Al-Nsair was an associate professor of nursing and associate chair/dean of the nursing program at Walsh University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Jordan University of Science and Nursing, a Master of Science degree in nursing from Villanova University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Jeffrey Buth of Stevens Point, WI will join the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry as assistant professor. Prior to coming to Mount Union, Buth was a visiting instructor of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry from Augustana College and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Kevin Kern of Pensacola, FL was hired to serve as assistant professor in the Department of Theatre. Prior to joining the Mount Union faculty, Kern was the artistic director at the Pensacola Shakespeare Theater. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama from California Lutheran University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Brandeis University.

Dr. Lori Kumler of Youngstown, OH joins the Department of Political Science and International Studies as assistant professor. She previously taught in the Geography and Geological and Environmental Science Departments at Youngstown State University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, a Master of Arts in teaching from Tufts University and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Michigan.

Dr. Bertrand Landry of Greensboro, NC has been selected to join the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures as assistant professor of French. Prior to joining the Mount Union faculty, Landry was a visiting assistant professor of French at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has a Baccalaureat from Lycée Prieur de la Côte D'Or in France, a Maîtrise from Université de Bourgogne in France, a Master of Arts degree from Miami University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in French language and literature from Boston University.

Phillip LaScola of Louisville, OH joins the Mount Union faculty as an instructor in the Department of Biology. Prior to coming to Mount Union, LaScola was a graduate assistant at Kent State University. He also previously worked as an adjunct professor of biology and anatomy and physiology at Mount Union. LaScola earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Mount Union, a Master of Science degree in education from the University of Akron and is working toward a Doctor of Philosophy degree in exercise physiology at Kent State University.

Dr. Lonnie Lowery of Winona, MN has been selected to join the Department of Human Performance and Sport Business as an assistant professor. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, Lowery worked as assistant professor at Winona State University and an associate professor at the University of Akron. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in fitness, a Master of Arts degree in exercise physiology, a Master of Science degree in nutrition and dietetics and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in exercise physiology, all from Kent State University.

Susan Lucas of Alliance, OH has joined the Mount Union faculty as an instructor in the Department of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration. Lucas previously worked as office manager at Old Trinity Episcopal Church in Tiffin, OH and as instructor of communications at Heidelberg University. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilmington College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Tiffin University.

Dr. Jennifer Martin of Redford, MI has been selected as assistant professor of education at the University of Mount Union. She will be teaching courses in Mount Union’s Master of Arts in Educational Leadership graduate program. Prior to joining Mount Union, Martin worked as a special lecturer in the Department of Women and Gender Studies and the Department of Educational Leadership at Oakland University. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, a Master of Library Science degree from Eastern Michigan University, an Education Specialist degree in administration/leadership at Oakland University, a Master of Arts degree in English Literature from Eastern Michigan University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in educational leadership from Oakland University.

Justin Post of Raleigh, NC has joined the Mount Union faculty as assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics. Prior to coming to Mount Union, Post worked as a statistical consultant to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Penn State Erie and a Master of Statistics degree at North Carolina State University. He is working on a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Math from North Carolina State University, which is expected to be conferred in the fall.

William Schindel of Tallmadge, OH has been selected as head wrestling coach at Mount Union. Prior to being hired at Mount Union, Schindel did student teaching at Minerva Middle School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Union. He served as assistant wrestling coach at Mount Union for the 2011-2012 season.

Katy Shurilla of Struthers was hired as assistant professor and clinical coordinator in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Shurilla most recently worked as a physician assistant for the Visiting Physician Association of Youngstown, providing primary care to the homebound patient population. She earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies and a Bachelor of Science from Duquesne University. She is an NCCPA Board Certified Physician Assistant and is licensed under the State Medical Board of Ohio and the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine. She has a certificate to prescribe in Ohio, is AHA CPR certified and is a certified animas insulin pump trainer.

Beth Standley of Salem, OH has been selected to join the Mount Union faculty as a visiting instructor in the Department of Education. Previously, Standley worked as an academic and behavior interventionist for the Alliance City School District. She also previously served as an adjunct professor at Mount Union. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clarion University and a Master of Arts degree in community and educational counseling from Youngstown State University.

 

Whitney Snyder of Loudonville, OH has been selected to join the Mount Union faculty as an athletic training instructor in the Department of Human Performance and Sport Business. Prior to coming this appointment, Snyder worked as a certified athletic trainer intern and clinical instructor at Mount Union. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Baldwin Wallace University and a Master of Science from California University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Hans Tritico of Youngstown, OH joins the faculty at Mount Union as assistant professor of civil engineering in the Department of Engineering. Previously, Tritico worked as assistant professor at Youngstown State University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Science degree from Washington State University and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Michigan.

Jan Webler of Alliance, OH will join the Mount Union faculty in the Department of Education as a visiting instructor. Webler previously worked as an educational consultant with SPARK Ohio, Ohio Ready Schools and Synergy Alliance and was director of school improvement for prevention and early intervention for Alliance City Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Education degree from Kent State University.

Dr. Robert L. Woodward Jr. of Wooster, OH joins the Mount Union faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Woodward previously worked as a visiting assistant professor of chemistry at the College of Wooster. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in synthetic organic chemistry from The Ohio State University.

Vanessa Worley of North Canton, OH joins the Mount Union faculty as an assistant professor in the Physician Assistant Studies Program. Worley previously worked as a physician assistant for Catherine M. Fleisher, MD, Inc. in Canton, OH and at Perry L. Fleisher, MD, Inc. in Alliance, OH and Canton, OH. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Allegheny College and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from Chatham University.
