Mount Union Welcomes New Faculty Members

Mount Union College has appointed three new faculty members for the 2008-2009 academic year.

 

pierceKatherine Pierce, an instructor in the Department of Human Performance and Sport Business, will be teaching exercise science classes. Pierce earned a bachelor of science degree from Mount Union College and a master of arts degree from Kent State University. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Akron.   Her dissertation title is “The Effect of Fifty-Three Hours of Sleep Deprivation on the Thermo-Regulatory Hormonal Metabolic and Cognitive Responses of Young Adult Males to Multiple Bouts of Acute Cold Exposure.” She will be conducting related research on campus and helping with the development of internship experiences in exercise science and some significant curricular chances the department has been planning

 

schortgenFrancis Schortgen has been named an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Miami University, a master of arts degree from the University of San Francisco, a master of business administration degree from the National University of Singapore and a doctoral degree from Miami University. Schortgen is originally from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and has spent the last 14 years in the United States and East and Southeast Asia. He has worked as a business consultant and project manager for a boutique consulting firm in South Korea.

 

shookKathy Shook, an instructor in the Department of Education, will be teaching intervential specialist (special education) courses. She earned a bachelor of science degree and two master of science degrees from Youngstown State University. Shook is currently completing her doctoral degree at Youngstown State University in the field of educational leadership. She has been a public school teacher, guidance counselor, curriculum director and central office administrator. She has been a special education teach since 1977 and has taught graduate and undergraduate classes at Youngstown State University.
