ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union Regula Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement teamed up with the City of Alliance, Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Keep Alliance Beautiful and Keep Ohio Beautiful for a state roadway cleanup Saturday morning.

Nearly 60 Mount Union students and ODOT crew members gathered on campus and were welcomed by Mayor Alan Andreani, along with representatives from each of the co-sponsors of the event, before venturing to the Route 62 ramps leading into and out of Alliance.

Joe Mazzola, the Director of Planning and Development for the city thanked the volunteers for their dedication to beautifying the City of Alliance. He stressed the importance of appearance as visitors are entering the city and acknowledged the work of ODOT in helping improve the spaces.

Volunteers spent approximately two hours collecting both garbage and recyclable items at each of three ramp locations. ODOT employees assisted the students and worked on additional areas.

Keep Ohio Beautiful and Keep Alliance Beautiful provided vests and grabbers for the event while the Regula Center coordinated volunteer recruitment and sponsored lunch for all volunteers.

“Collaboration is a key skill that we work to instill in our students and events like this one are a great example of how successful it can be,” said Abby Honaker Schroeder, Director of the Regula Center.  “We are fortunate to have such strong partnerships throughout the community and look forward to additional projects with the city and other organizations.
