My course on popular music and the Vietnam War came directly out of research that I did on my first sabbatical in fall 2000. My more recent research on the development of British Invasion rock and roll has led directly to my new First Year Seminar, “Beyond the Beatles.”

Music Facilities and Equipment

The University of Mount Union is currently working on a significant renovation and addition to the existing performing arts facility. The new Performing Arts Center will include a new lobby, performance hall, black box theatre, green room, scene shop, costume shop, dressing area, art gallery and choir room as well as a renovated band room. The total estimated cost for the Center is $13 million, and is projected to be completed in December 2014. Read more.

The Music Library houses 7,800 scores and miniature scores, 8,600 recordings and CDs, and 1,800 reference and method books.

The department owns 3 pipe organs; 1 electronic organ; 3 concert grand pianos; a harpsichord; many practice pianos with both upright and grand pianos; numerous orchestral and band instruments; a collection of Renaissance and Baroque instruments; a collection of non-western instruments; and a Roland piano lab, with 14 electronic keyboards. The department also has acquired a fully-equipped state-of-the-art computer lab, Macintosh computers, and Kurzweill, Yamaha, and Korg synthesizers.
