Music Performance Hands-On Learning

Students who choose to major in music performance at the University Mount Union have ample opportunities to showcase their talent outside of the classroom. By getting involved in these extracurricular opportunities and student organizations, you can strengthen your musical abilities and get valuable performance experience, both of which are critical to finding a job after graduation. All majors and minors are encouraged to participate actively in the following extracurricular activities and performance groups.

Student recitals, held every Thursday morning, give students a chance to perform in front of an audience filled with faculty members, students and other members of the Mount Union community.

Research allows you to analyze and investigate areas that you’re most interested in, and most students present their research in the form of a recital. One student this year is researching the history of Broadway songs and will sing representative examples during a recital to illustrate his findings.

Performance groups are very popular at Mount Union and include a wide range of opportunities to fit a student’s interest and passion:

  • Concert Choir
  • Mount Union/Alliance Chorale
  • Alliance Symphony Orchestra
  • Marching and Concert Bands
  • Brass Choir
  • Clarinet Ensemble
  • Opera Workshop
  • Keyboard Ensemble
  • Student Musicals
  • Percussion Ensemble
  • Jazz Band
  • Flute Ensemble
  • Women's Chorus
  • Repertory Strings

Auditions are scheduled for these performance groups at the beginning of each semester through the Department of Music.
