Nathan Hess Piano Concert and Masterclass to be Held April 7

Dr. Nathan Hess, assistant professor of piano and coordinator of the keyboard area at Mercyhurst College, will perform a piano concert Tuesday, April 7 at 8 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall at Mount Union College. In addition, at 4 p.m. he will hold a master class in Presser Hall.
The performance will include selections by Frederic Chopin, Samuel Barber, Francis Poulenc and Alberto Ginastera.
Hess earned a doctorate of musical arts and a master of music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of music degree from James Madison University where he was named a Presser Scholar. He has participated in several masterclasses and has also appeared in concert throughout the United States and Europe.
He acts as a frequent orchestral pianist with the Erie Philharmonic and has performed with numerous other groups. Hess currently heads the piano program at the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts during the summer, teaching applied piano, chamber music, music theory and music history. Prior to working at Mercyhurst College, he taught at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
