National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week
May 10, 2010
"All Things in Balance, All Things in Motion" is the theme for National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week at Mount Union College, October 20 - 26.
Throughout the week, events and activities will be held for students, faculty and staff to encourage and reinforce responsible attitudes toward drinking and respect for current state laws and school policies.
"National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week is in its second decade nationally and has been celebrated at Mount Union College for over 14 years," said Angela Bono-Severy, Alcohol and Other Drug Educator and Counselor for Mount Union College.
Several activities will be held on Monday, October 22. A "Stress Fest" will be held in the Main Lounge of the Hoover-Price Campus Center from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., offering free massages, aromatherapy and other stress reduction techniques. A Yoga and Relaxation Seminar will also be held in the Alumni Room at noon. Student Health Services is sponsoring a cookout and alcohol-free party from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Health Center.
On Wednesday, October 24, a Residence Life Alcohol Program will be held at 8 p.m. in the Campus Grounds, followed by a "mocktail" competition, where student groups submit non-alcoholic cocktail recipes for cash and prizes. Comedian Elvira Kurt, co-sponsored by the Student Activities Council, will entertain later that evening at 9 p.m., also in the Campus Grounds.
On Thursday, October 25, convocations will be held at 10:35 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Mount Union College Theatre. Joseph Weinberg will be speaking about sexual assault and what can be done to prevent it.
Throughout the week, information will be provided in the Hoover-Price Campus Center on alcohol addiction and treatment options, how to help a friend stop drinking, and responsible alcohol consumption. Students can sign a pledge to be alcohol-free for the week and register for non-alcoholic party baskets and other prizes.
