National Girls and Women in Sports Day to be Held at Mount Union March 18
May 10, 2010
Mount Union College, in conjunction with the YWCA, Girl Scouts of America and the Alliance Department of Parks and Recreation will host the 21st annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, March 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the College's Timken Physical Education Building.
Mount Union female athletes will be on hand holding clinics in many different sports and health and fitness techniques.
The National Girls and Women in Sports Day was established by a congressional resolution in 1986 to celebrate the achievements of girls and women in sports. The event is a collaborative effort that allows representatives of women's sports to educate young women about the benefits of sport and to encourage girls and women to participate in sports. The theme for 2007 is 'Throw Like a Girl, Lead Like a Champion.'
This event is open to all girls in elementary and middle school. Registration is $6 and can be made by calling the Alliance YWCA at (330) 823-1840.
