Nature Center Holds First Family Fun Night
June 11, 2009
The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center held a Family Fun Night on Friday, June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the North Woods of the Nature Center.
The Nature Center sponsored family night to encourage children and parents to reconnect with nature. Grandparents, parents and children of all ages participated in activities, such as hiking and playing in the woods and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.
Each family that participated was given a backpack to load with tools of discovery, such as magnifying glasses and bug boxes. These backpacks are regularly available for families to check out at the Nature Center Visitor’s Center.
The Nature Center continues to develop plans for more family events outside.
As a member of the Children and Nature Network, the Nature Center has joined together with hundreds of other organizations across the nation to educate families about the health benefits for children of repeated exposure to nature. To learn more about the issue, visit www.childrenandnature.org.
