nature center to host carnation days open house

May 10, 2010

The John T. Huston ' Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center of Mount Union College will host a Community Open House on Sunday, August 19 as part of the Greater Alliance Carnation Festival.

Activities will include informational hikes and crafts. At 2 and 4 p.m., approximately 3 mile hikes, that venture to the old woods, pond, barn and gardening area with historical and educational information along the way, will depart from all over the property on the Nature Center. Strollers and small children may have a hard time with the distance and terrain.

More family friendly hikes will be offered at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. These hikes will stay primarily on the boardwalks and will visit the barn and pond. Water samples will be collected from the pond and brought back to the Visitors Center Lab to be studied under microscopes.

A craft for the children will also be offered.

Please note that there will not be a Night Hike this year.

The Nature Center is located six miles south of Mount Union College on Daniel Street, just off of Route 183. For more information, contact the Nature Center at (330) 823-7487.
