New Apartment-Style Housing


In response to the high demand for independent living options on campus, Mount Union has announced plans to build additional apartment-style housing units on Union Avenue. The proposed complex will be constructed on the vacant land in the 1300 block of South Union Avenue at the southwest corner of Overlook Drive.  

Highlights of the project include:

  • ApartmentsThree 30,000-square-foot buildings containing 16 apartments
  • The ability to house a total of 188 students and one resident director
  • Three-story facilities, with the exception of a handful of two-story units that will be handicap-accessible
  • Parking for 214 vehicles
  • Large, open green space for student recreation
  • Extensive landscaping around all sides of the buildings and adjacent to the single-family homes of the neighborhood

Each independent-style unit will contain:

  • A living room, full kitchen and half bath on the first floor
  • Two bedrooms and a full bath second floor
  • Two bedrooms, a full bath and laundry facilities on the third floor

Handicap-accessible units will include a living room, full kitchen, one full bedroom and a full bath on the first floor and three bedrooms, a full bath and laundry facilities on the second floor.

The building project will be designed in accordance with LEED standards and display Mount Union’s commitment to sustainability through:

  • High efficiency HVAC systems
  • Fluorescent lighting fixtures
  • Low-flow showers and toilets
  • Recyclable carpeting with low VOC adhesives
  • Paint with low VOC content
  • Locally manufactured building products including brick, wood and stone materials
  • Triple pane windows
  • Bike racks
