New Building Construction Underway on Union Avenue

June 19, 2013

Construction is underway for the University of Mount Union’s new Health and Medical Sciences Building. The facility will come in the form of a new building connected by walkway to the south end of Bracy Hall along Union Avenue.

“We are excited to see the project take shape on Union Avenue and have no doubt this building will be instrumental in educating generations of future medical professionals,” said Richard F. Giese, president of Mount Union. “Thanks to generous support from our donors, this top-notch facility will allow us to continue preparing students for fulfilling careers in the medical field.”

The new facility, being built by Hammond Construction, will house Mount Union’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, slated to begin this coming fall, as well as possible future health-related programs. In addition, it will become the new home to the University’s master’s program in physician assistant studies, currently located in Bracy Hall, which enrolls more than 60 students and welcomed its fifth cohort in May.

With a projected cost of $12.5 million, the Health and Medical Sciences Building will include an operating simulation room, exam rooms, skill labs, a conference room, tiered and regular classrooms, expansion space, a courtyard and faculty offices.

The University of Mount Union is also undertaking a number of construction projects on other areas of campus, which include the addition of a new Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on Union Avenue and press box and locker room renovations. Future construction projects include the Mount Union Gateway, a commercial development complex on the perimeter of campus and the addition of a Fine Arts Complex at Cope Music Hall.

“Many of these projects emerged as part of our Campus Master Plan,” Giese said. “We continue to strive to meet the needs of our students and provide high-quality facilities to give them a learning experience that is second to none.”
