As a part of the Eisenhower Series College Program (ESCP), military experts from the U.S. Army War College came to visit the University of Mount Union’s campus on Thursday, March 17. While on campus, they discussed national security and other public policy issues through a forum-based panel discussion.

Students enrolled in a social responsibility course at the University of Mount Union traveled to a rural village in El Salvador to help others during spring break. For nearly 12 years, Mount Union has worked with ASAPROSAR, a rural health organization to work on a variety of humanitarianism projects.

A group of University of Mount Union students, two staff members and an alumnus spent their spring break in Niceville, Florida restoring the Gulf Coast ecosystem.

A spring vocal showcase will be held on Sunday, March 27 at 3 p.m. in Presser Recital Hall on the University of Mount Union’s campus.

Astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson will present "10 Things You Should Know About the Universe" during the Schooler Lecture on Thursday, March 24 at 8 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (The MAAC). Tyson is the on-campus host and executive editor of PBS’ show NOVA scienceNOW as well as an astrophysicist and research associate at the American Museum of Natural History.

The Evening of Broadway performance featuring singers Tamra Hayden and Craig Schulman attracted a large crowd, as more than 500 people attended the free concert on Tuesday evening at the University of Mount Union.

Junior music education majors at the University of Mount Union – Sarah Behal of Stow, Ohio and Kayleigh Eddy of Youngstown, Ohio – placed second and third respectively in the R. Keith Newton Music Education Essay Competition. The competition was administered by The Ohio Federation of Music Clubs.

The University of Mount Union recently earned Tree Campus USA recognition for 2010 for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship. This is the first year Mount Union has been named a Tree Campus USA.

The Alliance Summit for Alleviating Poverty (ASAP) will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Union Avenue United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 9. This one-day, free educational event aims to raise awareness of poverty in Alliance and discuss poverty alleviation efforts and ideas.

Dr. James Thoma, associate dean and professor of human performance and sport business at the University of Mount Union, will present “Sports Going Global: Life’s Lessons” on Tuesday, March 22 at the LINC luncheon held at Mount Union. Thoma will discuss how sport is used to illustrate lessons that are learned in our personal lives.

The Annual Student Art Exhibit featuring works by University of Mount Union students will be on display in the Crandall Art Gallery from Monday, March 14 through Thursday, March 31. 

Since early February, the University of Mount Union has been competing in RecycleMania, a nationwide recycling competition between colleges and universities. The eight-week competition will come to a close on Saturday, April 2.

A recital featuring University of Mount Union students will be held Tuesday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Recital Hall.
