A spring diversity film festival will be held at Mount Union on Sunday, March 28 through Wednesday, March 31. The purpose of the film festival is to break down stereotypes, bring groups together and to encourage programming pursuant to Mount Union’s diversity plan. Each day during the film festival, an organization will feature a film/documentary and follow the film with a brief audience discussion.

Mount Union College has been named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service efforts and service to America’s communities.

The middle school teacher candidates at Mount Union College are coordinating “Get Up and Get Active,” an educational and motivational workshop that will be held on Thursday, April 1 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Alliance Middle School.

Bradley Kerstetter, a junior business administration major of Louisville, OH was awarded first prize at the semi-annual Mount Union Student Debate held on Wednesday, March 24 in Chapman Hall. Earning second place honors was Steven Kandray, a freshman of Boardman. Kaley Smitley, a senior English: literature major of North Canton, OH captured the third place prize.

The 17th Annual Mount Union Greek Awards, presented by the Order of Omega was held on Sunday, March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre. The purpose of the Greek Awards program is to provide recognition to outstanding individuals and organizations in different areas of achievement for their accomplishments throughout the 2009 year.

“To do business in Afghanistan or Pakistan, you need three cups of tea,” said Greg Mortenson, former mountaineer, co-founder of two non-profit organizations and co-author of Three Cups of Tea, at the 2010 Mount Union College Schooler Lecture on Tuesday, March 23.

Dr. Michael Sheng, professor of history and chair of the history department at the University of Akron, will present “Ideology and Sino-American Relations: Past and Future” on Wednesday, March 31 at 4 p.m. in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center on Mount Union’s campus.

“24 Hours of the Arts” will be held on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 at the Rodman Playhouse, Cope Music Hall, Pressure Recital Hall and the Crandall Art Gallery on Mount Union’s campus. The event will feature 24 straight hours of music, performance art and entertainment.

More than 100 individuals attended “Facing Our Mental Health Crisis: A Community Conversation” on Wednesday, March 17 at Mount Union.

Ronald F. Holden II has recently been named the multicultural recruitment coordinator and admission representative at Mount Union College.

Dr. Peter Schneller, associate professor of education and co-chair of the Department of Education presented, “Creativity: Friend or Foe?” during the sixth and final LINC Luncheon of the 2009-2010 Academic Year on Tuesday, March 16 at Mount Union.

Mount Union’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) held a spring conference on March 16 that brought back three Mount Union alumni whom provided valuable insight into the communication field and offered advice.

The semi-annual Mount Union College Intercollegiate Student Debate will be held on Wednesday, March 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Chapman Hall 11. The topic for the debate will be “Resolved: Greater government involvement in economic and social affairs is good for the United States at the present time.”

Students at Mount Union are learning both inside and outside of the classroom the importance of grant writing and strategic planning in nonprofit organizations.

The Annual Student Art Exhibit, that features works by Mount Union students will be on display in the Crandall Art Gallery from Monday, March 15 through Wednesday, March 31.
