Shannon Ortiz, counselor at the University of Mount Union, will discuss disordered eating on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 p.m. in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center. This discussion is a part of the Confidence in U series, which is being organized by the University’s Panhellenic Council and funded by a Kappa Delta Sorority grant.

Dr. Patricia (Foley ’73) Matthews, dean of the Division of Professional Studies and professor of economics, accounting and business administration at the University of Mount Union, gave the Faculty Lecture on Wednesday, February 8. Matthews, who also serves as the Nolen A. Cunningham Chair of Business and advisor of the Investment Team, presented Derivatives: Friend or Foe?

Judge Robert G. Lavery will be the topic of discussion at the Continued Learning Program session on Tuesday, February 14 at 10 a.m. in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center on the University of Mount Union’s campus. Lavery will discuss the Alliance Municipal Court’s Civic Improvement Program and its history, goals, successes, failures and future.

Cory Dobbelaere will discuss living with bipolar disorder on Wednesday, February 22 at 6 p.m. in the Mount Union Theatre.

The University of Mount Union has named Dr. Nezam Al-Nsair its new director of nursing.  In this position, Al-Nsair will be responsible for launching the institution’s proposed Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013 pending the appropriate external approvals.

A student recital featuring students from the University of Mount Union will be held on Tuesday, February 14 at 10:35 a.m. in Presser Recital Hall.

Philip Gerard, chair and professor of creative writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, will present the Mary W. and Eric A. Eckler Endowment in Literature and Drama at the University of Mount Union on Thursday, February 16 at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Recital Hall. He will present The Patron Saint of Dreams, which is the title of his newest book that will be released in March. Immediately following Gerard’s lecture, a book signing will be held in the lobby of Cope Music Hall. Many of his books are currently available for purchase in Mount Union’s University Store.

Sculptures and drawings by Bob Buganski, associate professor of art and chair of the Department of Art at the University of Mount Union, will be on display in the Crandall Art Gallery on the Mount Union’s campus from now until Wednesday, February 29. An artist reception also will be held on Thursday, February 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Gallery.
