What I like most about Mount Union that I am able to participate in a variety of activities across campus while still focusing on my academics. I am planning to go to Germany this summer and take classes along with an internship. I am very excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to see how it helps me grow as a person.
There are a variety of reasons that Mount Union feels like home to me. One of the main reasons is the amazing friendships I have formed. Between my housemates, teammates, and sorority sisters I have a great support system that can get me through anything. My advice to a prospective student would be to get involved as much as you can. College goes by really fast and you want to have great people surrounding you while you are here.
I am very interested in foreign countries and how the United States chooses to interact in various situations abroad. I chose my music major because I have been playing piano for 16 years now. It has become a part of me and I wanted to further my understanding of everything that goes into music. A lot of the classes I have taken so far have involved Music or Politics. Although these are very different it has helped me diversify my knowledge and make me a more well-rounded person.
Mount Union stood out for me because I felt like all the professors really cared about me as a person and were willing to help me further my education. My favorite professor is Dr. Liliestedt. She has taught me a lot about not only the piano, but about life as well. Her dedication to music has taught me the values of working hard and never giving up.
I think a liberal arts education is important for professional preparation because it makes you a well-rounded individual. It gives you the opportunity to learn about other things outside your major, which is important in any work place. My experience with the Integrative Core will make me a better professional because I can say that I have knowledge over other subjects outside of International Affairs. It makes me more marketable when looking for a job.
My ultimate career goal is to work in the government. I would like to work dealing with foreign issues in either the CIA or FBI. It is important to me to try and make a difference in the world even if it is the smallest issue.
My advice to a prospective student would be to get involved as much as you can. College goes by really fast and you want to have great people surrounding you while you are here.
