Mount Union Welcomes New Faculty Members to Campus

The University of Mount Union welcomes the addition of twelve new faculty members to the Mount Union community.
Brian R. Aurand of Massillon, OH will join the Mount Union faculty in the fall as an instructor in the Department of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, Aurand was an adjunct professor at Walsh University, Ashland University and Stark State Community College. He earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from The University of Akron and a master of business administration degree from Case Western Reserve University. He is also a certified public accountant and is working toward a doctoral degree in marketing from Cleveland State University.
Dr. Danielle Cordaro of Lafayette, IN has been selected to join the Department of English as assistant professor and co-director of the Writing Center. She earned both bachelor and master degrees in English from Western Michigan University. She also earned a doctoral degree in English from Purdue University. While working toward her doctoral degree, she taught classes at Purdue and served as the ESL coordinator of Purdue’s writing lab.
Dr. Theresa Duncko of Boardman, OH will join the faculty this fall as visiting professor in the Department of Education. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, she was an adjunct professor at Kent State University and The University of Akron. She earned a bachelor of science degree in education/special education-learning disabilities from Youngstown State University. She also earned both master and doctoral degrees from Kent State University.
Master Sergeant Todd Harris has been selected to join Mount Union as an instructor of military science. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, he was the First Sergeant Delta Company 2nd 27th infantry 3rd Brigade Combat Team 25th Infantry Division (LIGHT).
Michael A. Kachilla of Cambridge, OH has been selected to join the Department of Economics, Accounting and Business Administration as assistant professor. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, he was an adjunct professor of Muskingum College and the president of the Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from The Ohio State University and a master of business administration degree from Ohio University.
Dr. Michael Knepp has been named assistant professor in the Department of Psychology. Knepp comes to Mount Union from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he served as the graduate teaching assistant coordinator, research system coordinator and graduate research assistant in the department of psychology. He earned a bachelor of science degree in neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. He also earned a master of science degree in psychology and a doctoral degree in developmental and biological psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Lieutenant Colonel Terry P. Michaels has been selected to join Mount Union as an instructor of military science. Prior to joining the faculty at Mount Union, he was an instructor and writer in intermediate level education at Command and General Staff College.
Dr. Donna J. Michalek of Hancock, MI has been named chair of the Department of Engineering, director of mechanical engineering and associate professor of mechanical engineering. Michalek comes to Mount Union from Michigan Technological University, where she most recently served as assistant provost and associate professor in the department of mechanical engineering-engineering mechanics (ME-EM). She earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University, a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a doctoral degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. Gary Miller of Big Rapids, MI has been a selected as a visiting professor in biology at Mount Union. Prior to joining the faculty, Miller was a visiting assistant professor in biological sciences at Ferris State University. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology from Grand Valley State University and a doctoral degree in biology from Bowling Green State University.
Dr. Helen Muga of Tampa, FL has been selected as an assistant professor of engineering. Prior to joining the faculty, she was a postdoctoral research scholar in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of South Florida. Muga earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Papua New Guinea and a master of science degree in chemical engineering from Curtin University of Technology. She also earned both a a master and doctoral degrees in environmental engineering from Michigan Technological University.
Dr. Bruce Pietz has been selected as an instructor of human performance and sport business. Pietz comes to Mount Union from Baldwin-Wallace College, where he served as an assistant professor and physical education program coordinator. He earned a bachelor of science degree and a master of arts degree in physical education from Minnesota State University. He is currently working toward a doctor of education degree from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
Dr. Clarence M. Shearer has been selected as the interim director of choral activities and visiting professor of music at Mount Union. He is a professor emeritus at Kent State University. He earned a bachelor of music education degree in vocal music and a master of music degree from North Texas State University. He also earned a doctor of musical arts degree in choral conducting and literature from the University of Colorado.
